Hopeful Passenger
A performance spread across buses
Synopsis
Hopeful passenger is a performance spread across buses and bus stops of a city centre. The piece encourages us to open our minds to fellow passengers and to observe the small moments and encounters that take place in the confined everyday space like public transport.
The performance is experienced by following the performer around and therefore all the commuters by chance become a part of the performance.
Public transport is a place of convergence, where people are thrown together in unexpected ways. In public transport, we don’t have the power to choose whom we share space with. This forces us to acknowledge each other’s existence and to meet others outside our immediate circles, even if only for a fleeting moment and in micro expressions. Hopeful passenger wants to highlight how being a passenger on a bus exposes us to sharing space with people randomly and becoming aware of how this feels.
